Compositing and VFX – After Effects Final Project
This was a project done as the final for Purdue’s Compositing in After Effects class. I created the original visual effects using After Effects and 3rd party plugins. The talent in this video is Purdue Professor Matt Wallace, using original props from Warhammer 40,000.
My goal for this project was to create a realistic, cinematic background universe in the style of Warhammer 40,000, since that is where the prop was sourced from. I achieved this using many of the tools available in After Effects, as well as a few of the plugins from VideoCopilot.
The original Chainsword footage was shot in Purdue’s VFX lab in Knoy Hall. I chroma-keyed the footage and composited it along with the rest of my footage and effects.
Tracking in After Effects
This was an assignment created using the Mocha tracking tool in After Effects. This was done for Purdue’s After Effects Compositing class.
For this assignment, I used After Effects to insert recorded footage of the app onto the tablet’s screen.
Making use of tracking was necessary for this assignment in order to have the footage appear correctly. After fine-tuning the tracking points, the app footage composited very cleanly onto the tablet.
